On the Street: The Maxi Skirt

So I'm trying something new here... I'm going to start snapping photos of fashionable locals I come across; after all, I don't want everyone to get tired of seeing me! I've been trying to get up the courage to do this for a while...but I'm still a bit shy about announcing to strangers that I have a fashion blog. Anyhow, I noticed this really cute girl sporting a maxi skirt last weekend, and I happened to have my camera on me, so I just summoned up my courage and asked if I could put her on my blog. Luckily, she was open to the idea and was more than willing to offer up the deets of her look--right down to her nail color! I love how casual cool she looks. (It turns out she works in fashion--go figure!). The skirt is PureBody by GapBody; I think I need it!

Here is Tammy, en route to check out Bridesmaids.  See the end of the post for complete outfit details.

Blue + Yellow = Happiness

Admittedly, I'm poaching this idea from The Sartorialist, which is one of my favorite blogs. If you haven't ever checked it out, I suggest you do so immediately (disclaimer: this site is the equivalent of blog crack. You're sure to be immediately addicted). I know that wearing blue and yellow together is not a novel idea, but after I saw the post about the trend, which apparently is big in London, I couldn't help but feel a burning desire to construct an outfit for myself. And, I have to say, throwing in poodles & stripes as my blue element, well... double the happiness. The dogs also happened to be a great conversation starter when I wore this outfit out one Saturday night. I credit Brit from Flight of the Conchords for single-handedly bringing critters back in vogue.

The billowy blouse

There is something ridiculously romantic about the silky blouses that are so ubiquitous right now. I first thought to buy one after seeing my friend Patty's gorgeous blouse while styling her wardrobe. I'm pretty sure she said she purchased in the early 90s. How fortuitous that she kept it!

Nude, rose, pinkish hues are all the rage, but any I'm starting to see a much more diversified palette. What I love about the light pink is that it truly seems to look good on everyone. I recently bought mine during one of Saks Fifth Avenue's Fashion Fixes, a devilishly tempting sale where certain designers are featured at over 50% off (to sign up, just create an account on their website).

I paired mine for its debut with my black skinny pants and a vintage-inspired belt to give me a bit of shape. I love that this shirt can be easily tucked in or worn untucked to show the shirttails. I'll share my outfit and then share a few similar blouses to "prettify" your wardrobe.

Feathers & Motorcycles

It's Sunday morning and I'm still on a natural high from last night's concert: Atmosphere at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Even though it was really cold, it was a great show, and I had a lot of fun people watching in between performers. It's always fun to check out what the college kids are wearing, as well as see all the wanna-be rappers. It was pretty hilarious.

To wrap up my 5 for 5 week, here are my Thursday and Friday outfits. Just for the record, I did not wear short shorts to work on Friday--I had on black skinny pants and then changed to shorts for night. Which truthfully didn't last long; I had a bit of a reality check when we were taking the photos (Friday was miserably windy and quite cold). It was back to the pants as soon as I got to happy hour.

The Sun is Shining, The Weather Outside is Sweet, Yeah

I'm a rainbow too...

Anyone remember that Bob Marley song remixed by Funkstar Deluxe? Reminds me of my beer-slinging London days. It was the perfect anthem for today.

It was one of those days when everyone was dressed to the nines. We all got to strut around in our finest warm weather clothes. I was riding public transit this morning and I wanted to take pictures of everyone. I can't believe San Francisco is sometimes considered to be lacking in style. On any given day I'm so impressed with the abundance of creativity and style.

This morning I was totally unprepared and having a hard time making an outfit work... but then I put this skirt with this top, threw on some animal accessories (belt, bracelet, earrings) and voila!

Tuesday

So there was allegedly going to be nice weather today.  Allegedly.

Anyhow, I wanted to go with a feminine look, so I wore my pale pink Grecian-style dress, which flows so beautifully when I walk. It's as much a sensory-pleasing dress as it is a visually pleasing one. I actually had a skater guy pull of his headphones to tell me, "Miss, I really like your dress." Still not sure what warranted the "Miss," but it was really sweet nevertheless. Normally I wear this dress with a wider belt, but I'm just so into slim belts right now. Never hurts to do an accessories shake up to avoid clothing ruts.

I woke up with some wild hair today, so I thought I might as well run with it!

Alright, here's Tuesday:

Monday, Monday

This week I'm going 5 for 5: I'm going to post every outfit. Which means I've got to be prepared, so I'll keep it short and sweet tonight so I can go plan for Tuesday!

Suffice it to say that Mondays are anything but fun, but I swear, dressing up a little takes off the edge. My validation today? My straight male co-worker told me, "I really like your outfit. You're really on the cutting edge of fashion..." Not so sure I'm on the cutting edge, so to speak, but I do think about it a lot and I'm not going to pretend that I don't like compliments!

And on another note, I've changed the settings on commenting, so hopefully you'll now be able to post. I'd love to hear what you think!
