Push Pop

The spring season is all about brights. And black and white. Oh, and PS, emerald green is the color of the year. WHAT?!? Seriously, I love fashion and I love shopping, but I'm tired of the fashion world trying to market concepts each season. Black and white, really? Is that novel? Groundbreaking? Who among us does not wear our fair share of black and white? Well, anyway, I love brights and even though I resemble a push pop in this outfit, I couldn't resist. The best part is that I've had all of the pieces for a while now. I have all of zero time to shop these days, so I have to make do with what's already in my closet. These shoes are from 2005, which just goes to show that fashion goes in cycles. I'm not saying keep your entire wardrobe from, ahem, high school, but sometimes it's worth hanging onto outdated styles.

Band of Horses

Yesterday Aaron and I took the day off work, solely with the intent of catching up on sleep and spending some time together sans Sylvie. My work schedule has been insane, and we are still recovering from a fun few weeks in which Sylvie was waking hourly throughout the night. We ended up catching up on rest, enjoying some seriously good eats at Brenda's Soul Food, and then squeezing in a massage before picking up the critter from daycare. Glorious, I tell you!

I threw on this outfit without the intention of blogging, but then decided, what the hell? Why not? I have so little free time these days, I may as well capitalize when I do!

I've had this shirt for several years but due to a less-than-perfect fit, I haven't worn it much until recently. I think that perhaps, for better or for worse, I've become less concerned with my clothes always being snug and fitting just so. Maybe it's because I'm still trying to shake the end of the baby weight, and nothing looks that spectacular anyhow! All you mommas out there can probably relate!

Transitions

I've been thinking about transitions a lot lately. Having a baby will do that to a person! After 9 long months, baby Sylvie Dalia transitioned to the outside world, increasing our family head count by 50% and increasing the love exponentially. 'Tis the season of transition: summer is transitioning to autumn, and Aaron and I are transitioning to parenthood (although transition tends to imply a period of time in which one is able to make adjustments; parenthood is quite the opposite...suddenly this little tiny baby's life is thrust into your hands, immediately after a long labor and no sleep!).

I've been thinking about this post for quite some time, but actually finding time to clean up and dress up in the presence of another person (to take photos) has presented itself to be an incredible challenge! I found myself changing a poopy diaper in this white dress right before we shot a few photos...luckily, I (believe) I came out of it unscathed. You'll also notice that we were only able to go as far as my doorstep to take pictures--couldn't leave the bambina on her own!

I've done a summer-to-fall outfit transition using the same centerpiece (white dress). Though I love colors and patterns, it's nice to have a few neutral pieces in my wardrobe to play with.

I'm learning to dress my post-baby body; please be forgiving, folks! I hope you all are doing well and I cannot tell you how happy I am to be back in the blogosphere!

Sunday Stripes

Nothing much to report here...just, you know, FREAKING OUT that we are now less than four weeks away from baby's due date. Sitting in a 7-hour intensive birth class yesterday didn't do much in the way of pacifying the psyche...

This morning we had a plethora of errands to run, so we decided to power up at Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen before facing the insanity one knows as Trader Joe's on a weekend.

I'm wearing my new Frye boots that I purchased at Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale. I've kept the catalog at my nightstand for weeks, and most nights before bed I would sneak a peek at these boots. It had been months since I had bought myself anything new, and I was counting the days until I could buy these! They are the most comfortable boots ever; it's all I can do not to sleep in them! The dress was one of my first maternity purchases; I'm surprised I haven't posted it before now. It's very comfy and I feel like I've worn it a thousand times, but I really didn't want to throw down too much cash on my maternity wardrobe

Anyhow, hope you all had a nice weekend!!

One last note, I wanted to give a quick shout out and thank you to Teal of Expecting Chic, who recently posted on her wonderfully cute & candid blog a snapshot of a few pregnant bloggers, including moi! Check out her site for a great style & parenting blog!

Ruching Is a Girl's Best Friend (Forget the Diamonds!)

I'm still squeezing into my Frock! by Tracy Reese non-maternity dress, though this may have been the last time until munchkin arrives. All I have to say is, thank the heavens for some serious ruching!

Last night we celebrated the civil wedding of our dear friends Sara and Remy (yet another wedding between a player & coach from my old soccer team, Trouble United). We're sadly missing their "real" wedding in Mexico, so at least we were able to toast them last night!

Summer Brights & Date Nights

Hello strangers! I know it has been a while since I've posted... I must admit I'm eating my words! I thought dressing cute & blogging while pregnant would be a breeze. The reality is that most mornings it's all I can do just to get to work, much less put together a blog-worthy ensemble. SO! There you have it. I hope you will be generous and overlook my white legs, my tired eyes, my wrinkled blouse, my messy hair. :)

I was able to sneak in a date night with Aaron, and feeling sassy, I actually managed to wear some tall wedges during the whole date, no flip flops stashed in my purse. I'm happy to report, there were no mishaps, no twisted ankles. It's the small victories in life, isn't it?

The Reverse Mullet Skirt (yes, you read that right)

I love this take on the maxi skirt--it's all business in the back, and all party in the front!

I wanted to do a day to night look, with "practical" (ok, let's be honest, when am I really practical) daytime shoe & bag, and then a chic shoe and clutch for night. I pulled these gold Steve Maddens out of my closet and had to give them a good dusting off as it's been years since I've worn them. I'm kind of feeling the pointy toe stiletto look again--what do you think? A do or a don't? The special thing about these shoes is that I was wearing them when I met my husband six years ago, at a swanky-themed party no less. Definitely worth hanging on to them, non?
