Dragon Girl

As I mentioned in my last post, I recently bought a new shade of lipstick (NARS Dragon Girl). I'm  head over heels for it; it's the inspiration for this outfit and I'm sure for many to come. I know that may seem silly, but I'm telling you, this bright red lip makes me feel...powerful! Heads turn when I wear it. Maybe it's the eye-popping, notice-me shade, maybe it's the confidence it gives me. I don't know for sure what it is, but I am sure I'm smitten.

What do you think of the long trench? I obtained it at a recent clothing swap. It's really long, but I think I like it!

A special thanks to Min Son for taking the time to be my photographer!!

Modern Vintage

Let me first apologize for the quality of these pictures. My brand new camera is on it's way (thank you Amazon)! I should have it in hand tomorrow. This was three rounds of shots with three different photographers and one very bad camera. I can't wait to get my new one, so I can start taking more shots of strangers on the street!

I bought this vintage dress in Milwaukee a few years ago at a little shop called Lola's Affordable Fashions. I'm heading back to Milwaukee in a few weeks, and intend to see what other treasures I can find. I love how this dress keeps cycling into style. I couldn't wait to wear it with my brand new Ash Italia shoes (once again, a great deal on Shopbop.com). I now own three pairs of Ash Italia shoes that I have purchased from Shopbop over the years when they're on sale. Love!

How is everyone doing this week? Surviving after the three-day weekend? We're almost through the week!

Tie One On

I like to judge the success of my outfits by the looks I get on public transit or as I walk down the street. Typically, I receive a wide variety, ranging from curiousity to admiration to downright contempt (usually from women, looking at me as if I'm trying too hard). When I get straight men commenting on my outfit, well that's a whole different scenario. This particular outfit elicited a number of comments from (presumably) straight men, most likely because I'm wearing a tie in San Francisco, a place where ties are practically obsolete.

I bought this blouse at Nordstrom, and immediately I thought of how cute it would be with one of my husband's skinny ties (which I bought for him, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't had an occasion to wear it yet). I wanted to juxtapose the "maleness" of the tie with some sky-high platforms. It probably would have been cooler to just be androgenous (a la Tilda Swinton), but I have to be honest about who I am (girly). I might have grown up playing street football and roller hockey with my brothers, but at the end of the day, I prefer to throw a spiral (right to the numbers) from the vantage point of a tall pair of heels.

Feathers & Motorcycles

It's Sunday morning and I'm still on a natural high from last night's concert: Atmosphere at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Even though it was really cold, it was a great show, and I had a lot of fun people watching in between performers. It's always fun to check out what the college kids are wearing, as well as see all the wanna-be rappers. It was pretty hilarious.

To wrap up my 5 for 5 week, here are my Thursday and Friday outfits. Just for the record, I did not wear short shorts to work on Friday--I had on black skinny pants and then changed to shorts for night. Which truthfully didn't last long; I had a bit of a reality check when we were taking the photos (Friday was miserably windy and quite cold). It was back to the pants as soon as I got to happy hour.

Thursday:

Top: Leifsdottir * Pants: Collective Concepts * Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell * Purse: Coach

Friday:

Feathered Top: Ya * Shorts: To The Max * Cardigan: Tronata *  Shoes: Chelsea Crew

Tuesday

So there was allegedly going to be nice weather today.  Allegedly.

Anyhow, I wanted to go with a feminine look, so I wore my pale pink Grecian-style dress, which flows so beautifully when I walk. It's as much a sensory-pleasing dress as it is a visually pleasing one. I actually had a skater guy pull of his headphones to tell me, "Miss, I really like your dress." Still not sure what warranted the "Miss," but it was really sweet nevertheless. Normally I wear this dress with a wider belt, but I'm just so into slim belts right now. Never hurts to do an accessories shake up to avoid clothing ruts.

I woke up with some wild hair today, so I thought I might as well run with it!

Alright, here's Tuesday:

Monday, Monday

This week I'm going 5 for 5: I'm going to post every outfit. Which means I've got to be prepared, so I'll keep it short and sweet tonight so I can go plan for Tuesday!

Suffice it to say that Mondays are anything but fun, but I swear, dressing up a little takes off the edge. My validation today? My straight male co-worker told me, "I really like your outfit. You're really on the cutting edge of fashion..." Not so sure I'm on the cutting edge, so to speak, but I do think about it a lot and I'm not going to pretend that I don't like compliments!

And on another note, I've changed the settings on commenting, so hopefully you'll now be able to post. I'd love to hear what you think!
